BEE Star Rating is a rating system used in India to measure the energy efficiency of appliances and equipment. BEE stands for Bureau of Energy Efficiency, which is a government agency responsible for promoting energy efficiency and conservation in India.

The BEE Star Rating system rates appliances and equipment on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, with 5 stars being the most energy-efficient. The rating is based on the energy consumption of the appliance or equipment, with a higher rating indicating a lower energy consumption.

The BEE Star Rating system covers a wide range of appliances and equipment. Various products like televisions, washing machine, LED lamps, water storage geyser, air conditioners, refrigerators, Laptop, office equipment, ceiling fan, solid state inverter microwave ovens etc. are covered under the program. While some products need mandatory compliance to energy efficiency standards, voluntary labelling opportunities also exist at the same time for many other products. Products are progressively shifted from Voluntary to mandatory list. Also, the Energy Efficiency Standards are wretched up periodically to encourage better products. The rating system has helped consumers make informed decisions about energy-efficient products and has encouraged manufacturers to produce more energy-efficient appliances and equipment.

Testing has the major role to make the energy efficient products under the BEE star label program. To apply for getting the product BEE star rated, products should have to comply the testing as per BEE documented schedule which also refers to IS and IEC standards, as needed. For BEE Star Labelling Approvals, Testing is required to be carried out at NABL Accredited Testing Laboratories. Whenever standards are updated, to retain the stars, the suppliers need to get the product tested again as per revised standards. Market Samples are also picked up by BEE and sent for independent testing at BEE recognised test labs.
